The King's Speech to Open in Manila this May

I am so excited to watch the film that was nominated for seven Golden Globes, won Best Actor - Drama, received 14 BAFTA nominations, the most of any film, won seven, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Firth, and Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress for Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter. The film was also nominated for 12 Academy Awards, the most of any film that year, and ended up winning four, all in major categories: Best Picture, Best Director for Tom Hooper, Best Actor for Firth and Best Original Screenplay for David Seidler.

After worldwide acclaim since its American debut last November, The Weinstein Company's “The King's Speech” will finally make its Philippine run starting on May 11, exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma).
The toast of last February's Academy Awards, “The King's Speech” won four major Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director (Tom Hooper), Best Actor (Colin Firth) and Best Original Screenplay (David Seidler), while cast members Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham-Carter earned nominations in supporting actor categories.
Based on the true story of King George VI, “The King's Speech” follows the Royal Monarch's quest to find his voice. In the film, after the death of his father King George V (Michael Gambon) and the scandalous abdication of Prince Edward VII's (Guy Pearce), Prince Albert (Firth) who has suffered from a debilitating speech impediment all his life, is suddenly crowned King George VI of England.
With his country on the brink of war and in desperate need of a leader, his wife, Elizabeth (Bonham Carter), the future Queen Mother, arranges for her husband to see an eccentric speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Rush). After a rough start, the two delve into an unorthodox course of treatment and eventually form an unbreakable bond.
With the support of Logue, his family, his government and Winston Churchill (Timothy Spall), the King will overcome his stammer and deliver a radio-address that inspires his people and unites them in battle.

Julien Drolon: French Singer with a Pinoy Heart

Orange Magazine TV's April 2011 cover is none other than the French singer with a Pinoy heart, Julien Drolon.

Singer, songwriter, and former International Reporter are all words that can be used to describe Julien Drolon, but they merely scratch the surface. Drolon (born in Nantes, France on the 5th of February 1982) is on a mission to promote peace thru his love for music. He first arrived in the Philippines last 2007 and came back at the end of 2009 and decided to start his musical career.

This French singer with a Pinoy heart describe his music style as feel good music which combines pop, reggae, funk, and rock. He considers Jason Mraz, Bob Marley, Jamiroquai, Donovan Frankenreiter, Patrice and Asa as his musical influences. Drolon performs on stage with his equally-talented Filipino band composed of Girlie Capulso (back up vocals), Enzo Queyquep (lead guitar), Joseph Duenas (bass), Leal Nanca (keyboard) and Joven Palencia (Drums).

COLT 45 Hails Patrick Cruz as Top Shredder in the Land!

The country’s first-ever guitar-glory nationwide contest, the Colt 45 “Shred to Slam” pumped metal at the recent and much-awaited grand finals at Capone’s, Makati Avenue.

What is shredding? Guitar pundit, Francis Reyes, defines it thus: “To ‘shred’ means to play the guitar at speeds generally credited to the equivalent of a hummingbird’s wings, or more to the point, the sound that a shredding machine makes. You get the picture. As a guitarist myself with roots in hard rock and metal, to shred means to play at the limits of your technical abilities. Any ‘serious’ guitar player who claims to be ‘metal’ makes it a goal to be a shredder; I was no exception. Technical knowledge is a must: you have to know your scales and modes. To play them, to shred, you must employ guitar techniques such as sweep picking and rapid alternate picking.”

Water for Elephants Movie Review

Life is the most spectacular show on Earth. You make your own story, you make it happen. Along with that, you choose that people that will play a very important part of your life. You decide which path to take, which train to ride, which food to eat and which people to love. And whatever happens at the end of the show, you have nothing but yourself to blame or to praise.

Water for Elephants is a based from the Sara Gruen's book by the same name. I have read the summary of the book and I am happy with the parts shown in the film. I feel that the movie presented the important parts. The story revolved around Jacob Jankowksi (Pattinson), a young man whose parents died in a car accident and is forced to live by himself. Fate brought him then to a circus train owned by August (Waltz), met Marlena (Witherspoon) and then his life is changed forever. I love the story, it's very moving and emotional. It's good also to produce movies like this, I can't remember the last time I even went to a circus.

Robert Pattinson fans should be proud. Robert's acting is far way better that he did in HP and Twilight. He was a totally different person as Jacob. Reese nevel fails to elude audience with her charm, may she be single or married in a film. Her natural elegance and beauty is a perfect distraction for Robert in the film and she's a the perfect Marlena. Waltz on the other hand, played his part very well. His wildly unpredictable character is the perfect enemy in the movie. I like how the movie started, the narration of Jacob is already as moving as his story. The Circus Show is a bit short though, I would have wanted to see more of the spectacular show. The ending is a hopeful triumph of being finally home for Jacob.

“Water for Elephants” opens May 4 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Movie Posters

The movie industry has been there for quite some time now. One of the busiest industry in our world today. Movies are being shown almost every week, almost everywhere in the world. People look forward to watching movies almost every week, with their family or even friends.  This is something that people anticipate for, as part of their leisure.

Movies have been fervently advertised in so many ways. Movie advertisers take advantage of the new technology to advertise their movies. They produce not one, not two but even three teaser trailer for their movie. They make the audience more eager to watch and anticipate the movie. Besides from the online presence of the movie, they also need external advertisements of course for the other crowd. The most excellent example then of external marketing of the movie would be the movie poster itself.

The movie poster easily catches the eye of the audience. It is always shown outside the cinemas and it serves as information already of the movie. The poster printing comes in different styles and its usually the most effective way to catch and audience eye. I always enjoy checking the movie poster in my favorite cinema to know the now showing movies and even the upcoming movies. I enjoy movie posters that feature the actors of the movie and even the setting of the movie. I even know a friend who collects movie poster as a hobby. I just don’t know how he gets one. I remember seeing one shop that sells movie posters, and I know you can even order it online. So from being the most important external advert into becoming a collection, movie posters serve a very important role in promoting a movie.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Trailer & Visuals

WETA Digital, the industry-leading and Academy Award® winning visual effects house behind the wizardry of films such as “Avatar,”  “The Lord of the Rings Trilogy,” and “District 9” held a live streaming event on Facebook, for “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” from their headquarters in Wellington, New Zealand.  The online event gave viewers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at their work on the film wherein the magic of rendering produced the world’s first photo-real ape as related by WETA’s  Joe Letteri and Dan Lemmon.

The movie is a reality-based cautionary tale that blends science fiction and science-fact  when a single act of both compassion and arrogance leads to a war unlike any other.  Set in present-day San Francisco, Will (Franco) has long been working on a cure that is being tested on apes when his test subject named Caesar (Serkis) starts exhibiting intelligence equal to humans. Caesar starts to evolve rapidly, and the scientist takes him home to live with him and protects Caesar from cruel scientists.  A revolution then starts that threatens mankind’s existence and the beginning of a new race.

WETA’s work on “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” presented very different challenges and opportunities.  In addition to the main CG character, Caesar that gives a performance of unprecedented emotion and intelligence, the apes will not be actors in costumes but rather rendered digitally to be photo-realistic and WETA is applying some of the technology it developed for ‘Avatar’ to bring to life a real world – and epic battles on which rest the upended destinies of man and primate.

Directed by Rupert Wyatt from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver – “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is a 20th Century Fox offering to open on August 5 (Friday) in theaters worldwide.

Dangerous Waltz in "Water for Elephants"

Oscar winning actor Christoph Waltz stars opposite Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in “Water For Elephants” based on the book of the same name by Sara Gruen.  The movie tells of a thrilling tale of adventure and forbidden love, set against the vibrant backdrop of circus life in the 1930s. Waltz plays the circus’ ringmaster August who is married to the circus’ star, Marlena played by Reese Witherspoon. Charismatic and charming, August is also dangerous, duplicitous and cruel. Pattinson plays Jacob, the young veterinary student who gets a job in the circus taking care of the animals after his parents died and falls for the beautiful Marlena..

Diary of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is Now Showing

Greg, the wimpy kid is back on the big screen taller and wiser but still has a lot to deal with to score points against his big brother Rodrick.  In the upcoming heartwarming family-oriented movie based on the best-selling book by Jeff Kinney of the same title “Diary of  A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” Greg deals with Rodrick’s attempts to ruin his whole summer.
Much like his electrifying drumbeats, Rodrick fries Greg in a series of unprecedented pranks enough to make Greg’s whole summer an episode of fear and embarrassment.
Devon Bostick, returning as eldest sibling Rodrick, was thrilled the character is front and center in this second Wimpy Kid story. “The title is ‘Rodrick Rules,’ so that means, a lot more Rodrick this time,” says the young actor. “In this movie, you get to see a brighter side of Rodrick, but also a darker and goofier side.

“Big Momma’s: Like Father, Like Son” Now Showing

Big Momma is back and this time he has big backup: his teenage stepson Trent.  Martin Lawrence returns as FBI agent Malcolm Turner and as Turner’s deep-cover alter-ego Big Momma. Turner is joined by Trent (Jackson) as they go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school after Trent witnesses a murder.  Posing as Big Momma and as hefty coed Charmaine, they must find the killer before he finds them.

The Malcolm-Trent dynamic is central to the series’ new direction.  As the film opens, Malcolm is thrilled when graduating high school student Trent is accepted to Duke University.  But Trent has other ideas; he wants to pursue a career as a rapper.  That conflict ultimately leads Trent to take a detour into the family business: going undercover by dressing up as a woman.   Trent joining Malcolm as a Big Momma and their ensuing generational battles not only double the comedy, they add an emotional resonance because Malcolm must come to terms with Trent’s desire to follow his dreams, even as Malcolm goes to extreme lengths to keep Trent safe. “I love playing Big Momma,” saysLawrence, “but it was really the energy of the script and having Brandon as my partner in the story that brought me back.  Malcolm looks at Trent as a son but Trent is becoming a man and wants to do his own thing.  Everyone can relate to that.”

Splashin' Good Time @ Splash Island

The family decided to celebrate summer early. As early as March, we are all set and ready to swim. Dad, who is addicted to group buying website bought Splash Island coupons at Metro Deal.

We arrived there a bit late (around 11am) and so we had a hard time looking for a Cabana or a hut that we can rent. But after a few stroll around the water park, we finally got one!
It has been ages since I last went to Splash Island and I am so surprised by how it looked like right now. The park somehow changed a lot.
