JASON PATRIC Faces Off with BRUCE WILLIS in "THE PRINCE"

In the vein of high-adrenaline action-packed films such as "Narc," "Catch .44" and "Frozen Ground," prolific producer Randall Emmett pits Jason Patric againts Bruce Willis in  the upcoming movie "The Prince."

                “Bruce really fell for the material, as well as Jason, and then John (Cusack) came on board and I felt that actors of this caliber would bring something really special to the characters and to the story of a man having to face his old demons when his daughter disappears in the same crime universe that he used to live in.” says Emmett.

                Jason Patric stars as Paul Brennan, a widowed family man who goes to New Orleans to track down his missing daughter. The truth of her disappearance is hard for him to take and forces him to confront his own criminal past.  Living under the radar for 20 years, Paul operates as a mechanic whose daughter, Beth (Gia Mantegna), attends college all the way across the country.  But when he soon learns that Beth's tuition has not been paid, he flies immediately to Lousiana to check on her despite his worst fears.  As Paul finds her way to Beth, he found her best friend Angela (Jessica Lowndes) and takes her where she's last seen Beth.

                Unknown to Paul, tracking down Beth means going through the path where he will eventually catch up with his past once again.  As they go through and past bullets looking for Beth, Paul finally comes face to face with an old enemy, Omar (Willis) - the city's most powerful man whose family he mistakenly killed 20 years back. It is then revealed that Paul is a former mob enforcer two decades ago.  “I play a single father who all of a sudden finds out that his daughter has disappeared, and in searching for her discovers she has a secret life,” explains Patric. “As the story unfolds, you find out Paul also had a secret life. I think we all have our pasts, parts of ourselves that we hide, for our betterment we believe. With every character I always find those parts of myself that I understand or that I have lived. In this case there is a darkness that this man has buried because he wants to have something better.”

 

                "Paul is the ultimate father, a tough guy but also a teddy bear deep down inside," explains Gia Mantegna who plays Beth, Paul's wayward daughter who runs with the wrong crowd when she leaves home for college. "Beth is the driving force for Paul’s return to New Orleans where he is forced back to his old territory and faces his enemies."

                "The Prince is an incredible action thriller, but at the same time there is a heart in there," concludes director Brian Miller. "There is the revenge that Omar has been seeking over the last twenty years and has built up through to the big finale at the end. And there's the very realistic father daughter relationship that I think people are going to relate to. Like a lot of people, Paul and his daughter had a very disconnected relationship. When he goes on this journey, it brings them closer together. It’s also a wakeup for all the characters who go through their own personal arcs. When people walk away at the end of this movie they are going to be blown away."

BRUCE WILLIS in Unrelenting Action Film “THE PRINCE”

Bruce Willis  leads a venerable group of veterans and newcomers in “The Prince,” a non-stop action film that forces a retired crime boss back into the seedy underworld he’d left behind. For twenty years Paul Brennan (Patric), a retired New Orleans crime boss, has lived a quiet life off the grid, running an auto repair garage in remote Mississippi. When his teenage daughter Beth goes missing, Paul is forced to return to the city and face his former enemies including  Omar (Willis), the city’s most powerful man whose family he mistakenly took out, in an explosive final standoff that may offer redemption for Paul’s past mistakes.

 

Prolific producer, Randall Emmett (“2 Guns,” “Escape Plan”) read the script and immediately knew it was a winner in the vein of his previous action packed movies. “Bruce really fell for the material, as well as Jason, and then John came on board and I felt that actors of this caliber would bring something really special to the characters and to the story of a man having to face his old demons when his daughter disappears in the same crime universe that he used to live in.” says Emmett.

As each new bit of information gets Paul closer to Beth, it also exposes him to Omar (Bruce Willis), “a very powerful man in the city of New Orleans who put a price on Paul’s head the day Paul mistakenly killed Omar’s wife and daughter,” explains director Brian Miller. “Like Open Range or Unforgiven, this is a modern day western where this gun slinger’s daughter goes missing in this city where he is a wanted man.”

“Bruce is an old school pro that can just turn on the charm; I would whisper in his ear and wound him up a little bit, and then just let him go,” recalls Miller, of the character that does little to hide his thirst for vengeance. Omar, finely dressed with an air of power about him, tightens his grip on the phone, as a car follows Paul’s Explorer through an industrial part of town. The voice on the other end assures Omar that everyone in the bar knew The Prince the second he walked in the door.

Director Brian A. Miller plants the audience firmly in the gritty underworld of revenge seeking gangsters with the action-thriller The Prince, which shot on locations throughout Mobile, Alabama. “I have to say, the production value that we got from Mobile is quite spectacular,” says Miller enthusiastically of the city that turned itself into a back lot and doubled as New Orleans for a large portion of the shoot. Adds producer Randall Emmett, “Brian fell in love with Mobile and thought it was just ideal for The Prince. The city worked with us and the community really embraced us, so it made our production really work.”

Rain Ready in “THE PRINCE”

Korean pop star Rain is back in fighting form after serving in the army for his country. Back to work and in full action mode, Rain stars alongside Hollywood’s Bruce Willis and Jason Patric in “The Prince” where he plays loyal henchman to Willis’ character who is about to settle scores with Patric playing the title role.

“The Prince” pits two long time enemies – a retired assassin Paul Brennan (Patric) and Omar (Willis), the city’s most powerful man who faceoff once again after twenty years.  Paul Brennan (Patric), a retired New Orleans crime boss, has lived a quiet life off the grid, running an auto repair garage in remote Mississippi when his teenage daughter goes missing, Paul is forced to return to the city and face his former enemies. 

The plot follows the re-awaking of a feud between a retired assassin and the man whose wife he killed years earlier. This man, played by Bruce Willis, exacts revenge by kidnapping the former hit man's daughter. Now the two are chasing each other through the streets of Mobile, although the trailer indicates it's set in Mississippi.  Standing dangerously between the two is Mark (Rain), loyal henchman to Omar. Omar instructs his henchmen to bring Paul to him, but Mark (Rain), measures his words carefully before counseling, Let him do whatever it is he came here for and crawl back to whatever rock he’s been hiding under. “Mark is cool headed and charismatic,” says South Korean actor and singer Rain, who plays Omar’s quick-on-the-draw, right hand man.

For Rain,  whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, “The Prince” is his first action film as he comes back to making movies after his military service.  Rain, known as a superstar musician in Asia, crossed over into acting with his debut in the hit South Korean television series “Sang-Doo” (Let’s Go to School). He solidified his position as an actor with his lead role in the Korean mini-series “Full House,” and became recognized throughout Asia as not only as a singer, but an actor as well. The drama was aired throughout most of Asia, including Japan and China, with an average program rating of over 50 percent. This was the start of Rain Fever that seemed to cross borders throughout the east and Southeast Asia.

During his latest Korean television mini-series, “A Love To Kill,” Rain’s headstrong approach to trials and challenges made him more versatile as an actor. One of the most acclaimed filmmakers in Korea, Chan Wook Park, known internationally for his VENGEANCE Triology (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance), chose Rain to star in “I’m A Cyborg, But That’s Ok.” It was a great honor and opportunity for Rain to finally break into films, and he was featured alongside stars Ji-Hoon Jung and Soo Jeong Im. The film won the Alfred Bauer Award for Particular Innovation in Filmmaking, one of the eight main awards at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival, and Rain received the Best New Actor Award for his role in the film at the 43rd Baek Sang Arts Award in Korea in 2007.

For his Hollywood debut, Rain was cast as a rookie racer in the Andy and Lana Wachowski’s action adventure film “Speed Racer,” based on the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida. This movie boasted the kind of revolutionary visual effects and cutting-edge storytelling that have become the benchmarks of the Wachowskis’ films, and gave Rain his first chance to leave his mark in the American entertainment industry. Impressed by Jung’s work ethic and his huge talent, the Wachowskis’ chose Rain for the lead in their next movie, “Ninja Assassin.” In the 2009 release, Rain plays Raizo, one of the deadliest assassins in the world.

Retaliation begins in G.I. Joe 2

A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION.

“A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD” Brings the Action Genre to the Extreme

25 years since John McClane was introduced in “Die Hard” movies that exploded into theaters, launching a new cinematic hero and changing the paradigm of action movies. McClane is identifiable and relatable. An ordinary man forced by circumstances to attempt an extraordinary task. That is what separates him from the comic book heroes of most action movies, and has made McClane one of the most popular characters in film history.

Bruce Willis reprises his iconic role as police detective John McClane in “A Good Day to Die Hard” directed by John Moore set against the backdrop of deadly corruption and political vendetta in Russia. 

McClane arrives in Moscow to track down his estranged son, Jack, (Jai Courtney), and is stunned to discover he’s working undercover to protect a government whistleblower, Komarov. With their own necks on the line, the McClanes are forced to overcome their differences in order to get Komarov to safety and thwart a potentially disastrous crime in the most desolate place on Earth - Chernobyl.

Willis is McClane, and he embraced the opportunity to pay another visit to the beloved character that has a habit of finding himself in the wrong place at the right time. Does trouble find John McClane or does John McClane seek it out? “Well, he’s certainly attracted to trouble,” says the actor, “but yes, trouble also seems determined to find him.”

“I find it an interesting exercise to reach for the bar we set with the series, and I enjoy checking in with McClane at different stages in his life,” Willis continues.

“In this story, he’s at a point where men tend to reflect on their past. For McClane, it’s the estranged relationship with his son. They haven’t spoken in some time, and the first news he’s received of him is about his arrest in Moscow.”

Moore embraced the opportunity of helming a new Die Hard picture and working with Willis. “Bruce is the most zealous guardian at the gate of what’s right for John McClane, and what’s right for Die Hard, says the director. Nobody knows the character and the franchise better than Bruce.”

As both head coach and referee of the new installment of this “Super Bowl” franchise, director John Moore was committed to taking the series to the next level. His unique visual style and background in action-oriented movies such as Behind Enemy Lines and Max Payne convinced Fox executives and producers he could move the ball downfield.

The work was painstaking but never dull: “It’s not unusual for us to spend 12 hours doing a shot that will be three seconds on screen, but there’s no other way,” Moore explains. “This is analog filmmaking. We are doing as much as possible in camera and only using VFX to enhance or paint in backgrounds.”

In creating the movie’s visual style, Moore wanted the camera work to be almost entirely handheld, using three cameras and long lenses to capture tight close-ups. The improvised camera movements place the audience inside the action, as if they’re part of the story, instead of detached observers viewing from a distance.

Moore says, “McClane is in a strange world, with little or no initial control over his environment. He’s unable to anticipate things as he normally might. He’s caught off guard, and we want the camera to mimic that surprise and confusion.”

“We have a couple of the best stuntmen in the world on this show, and the whole team is top notch,” says stunt coordinator Steve Davison. “The Die Hard shows are sort of the Super Bowl of action movies, and every stuntman in the business wants to be in the game.”
