7 Foods Every Woman Must Eat
~ from Beauty Eats on Yahoo
Here's good-food news: The more you munch on healthy eats, the less you need to worry about Friday night's fat burger and fries. Who says? Harvard. Its medical school has found that women who routinely nibble nutritiously slash their risk of dying from the usual culprits, including heart disease and cancer.
To up your odds of living a long and healthy life--despite occasional blow-outs at TGIF--make sure you regularly include these 7 nutritional powerhouses in your diet. "They're the cream of the healthy-foods crop," says Elizabeth Somer, RD, author of Age-Proof Your Body.
1. BERRIES
Why: Ounce for ounce, berries have more protective plant antioxidants than almost any other food. "These compounds not only lower your disease risks, they help prevent memory loss," says Somer.
How Much: Aim for a cup of berries--any berries, fresh or frozen--at least three times a week (berry researchers say eat a cup daily). Since berries are high in fill-you-up fiber, they may also help curb weight gain.
How:
Toss them in salads
Snack on them one by one, like healthy potato chips
Add them to yogurt, cereal, and smoothies
Stir them into anything you bake
2. SALMON
Why: Sure salmon is a prime source of omega-3s, the healthy fats that fend off heart disease and maybe more, but are you aware that a mere 3 ounces of the fish serves up 170% of your daily vitamin B12 and more than 80% of your D
How Much: Aim for two servings a week (and if one's tuna, that's okay).
How:
Broil, bake or poach it with dill
Toss it into pasta dishes and salads
If you're vegetarian or just not a fish-eater, get the key omega-3 fat called DHA in:
Silk Plus Omega-3 DHA Soymilk
Horizon Organic Milk Plus DHA
Oh Mama Nutrition Bars
Gold Circle Farm Eggs
Rachel's Wickedly Delicious Yogurts
3. LEAFY GREENS
Why: It's almost impossible to meet your nutritional needs without eating dark leafy greens, from spinach and romaine to collard greens and chard. They're huge sources of fiber; vitamins C and K; folic acid (a B vitamin that guards the heart and memory and fights birth defects); lutein, a vision protector; and four essential minerals: calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium.
How Much: Two servings a day, and the darker, the better.
How:
Add arugula to your sandwich
Layer chard into lasagna
Fold spinach into omelets
Add any green to stir-fries, pasta dishes and soup
4. WHOLE GRAINS
Why: They have up to 96 percent more fiber, magnesium, zinc, chromium and vitamins E and B6 than refined grains. This nutritional powerhouse helps prevent the same health problems that refined grains help cause: heart disease, cancer, diabetes, hypertension and even obesity.
How Much: Ideally, all of the six daily grain servings you need should be whole, unrefined grains, but aim for at least three.
How:
Start your day with oatmeal or whole-grain cold cereal
Use 100% whole-wheat bread for toast and sandwiches
Switch to whole-wheat couscous and pasta
Opt for brown rice (instant is fine), whole-grain pretzels, even whole-wheat tortillas
5. NUTS
Why: They're excellent sources of protein, magnesium, B vitamins and E--trusty fighters in the war against heart disease and cancer. Yes, nuts are high in fat calories, but their fat is the heart-healthy kind. Replace junky snacks with them and you won't gain an ounce.
How Much: Up to five small fistfuls a week (roughly 1/4 cup or about 15-20 almonds, cashews, walnuts or pecans).
How:
Sprinkle plain or toasted nuts on salads instead of croutons
Mix them into cooked cous cous and brown rice
Stir them into cereal and yogurt
Use them to garnish a stir-fry just before serving
6. GOLDEN VEGGIES
Why: Just one serving of fiber-filled, deep-yellow-orange vegetables supplies five times the beta carotene you need daily to lower your cancer risk, defend against colds and other infections, and protect your skin from sun damage. The potassium in these veggies also keeps your heartbeat in sync and your blood pressure down.
How Much: Aim for two half-cup servings a day, the equivalent of one sweet potato, 12 canned apricot halves or a cup of butternut squash or carrots.
How: Try this sweet potato quickie from Somer's The Food & Mood Cookbook:
Cajun Sweet Potatoes1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 2. Cut sweet potatoes into 1-inch thick slices and toss with olive oil, Cajun seasoning and freshly ground pepper. 3. Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly brown and cooked through, but still slightly crunchy.
7. YOGURT
Why: Low- or no-fat plain yogurt is a terrific source of B vitamins, protein, calcium and --if it has active cultures--the healthy bacteria known as probiotics, which crowd out disease-causing germs.
How Much: Four or more cups a week, if this is your main dairy source.
How: Cut back on sugar and calories by choosing plain yogurt and adding fruit, especially berries, and some granola. Or be more inventive:
Mix a dash of vanilla and chopped mint into yogurt and dollop on fruit
Use yogurt instead of sour cream for dips, sauces and salad dressings
Top baked potatoes with yogurt and chives
Thicken sauces and make soups "creamy" with yogurt
The payback part? As one of the Harvard researchers would likely tell you, eating a diverse diet that is low in calories and high in nutrients can make your RealAge as much as 4 years younger.

Yesterday, was one of the most amazing days of the year.. guess who just turned a year older?!
The time i woke up it felt like its just another day, just an ordinary day.. just trying to get by (singing mode).. then as i checked my phone it was flooded by texts messages.. suddenly i remembered, someone called me at 12AM and greeted me.. then it hit me.. Oh yeah, its my birthday! Its my birthday, its my birthday, wer gonna party like its my birthday (singing mode 2)
I prayed then after that i turned to my ringing celphone.. "call" a private no.?
Caller: Hello! Happy Birthday Cathie!!!!!!!!!!!
Cathie: Thank you.. who's..
Caller: Anong oras na ba jan?
Cathie: YIN!!!!!!!!!!
Got a call from bestfriend in Japan :) sosyal :)
Then from then on, wala na akong ginawa kundi tumanggap ng birthday greeting :)
Pagdating ko ng ofc, i found my station with the greeting "HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHIE! Ü" from you Secret Admirer!
I also got a greeting from Dubai, Saipan, Makati, Ortigas, Caloocan.. etc.. hehe!
We had early lunch, mom cooked a very sumptous children's party meal.. spaghetti and chicken and i made the marshmallows and hotdogs on stick :) it was really like a children's party :) except that wala kaming stain ng spag sauce sa damit, haha!
When i got back at my station, there it was.. my Secret Admirer's gift.. a bouquet of fresh flowers :) it was more than what i was expecting :) (oh, im not expecting anything pala, just hoping lang, haha!)
By MOO TIME (that's our merienda time) we ate the cake that was given my my beloved Gels.. it my fave (the fave of the super duper tech callers). Blew the candle then grabbed a slice each :)
The rest of the day only brought smiles.. nothing more, nothing less.. just a blissful day..Thanks for the wonderful yesterday.

I love and hate rainy days.. at the same time
What do you like about rainy days? What do you hate about rainy days? How many people love rainy days? How many people hate rainy days? What are their advantages? What are their disadvantages?
Those are the questions that ran in mind awhile ago while waiting for a Quiapo FX.
Konti lang ang tao kanina sa labas. Wala kasing pasok ang mga estudyante. (
I hate rainy days because.. (iisip ako ng mga rason ko)
- I hate the feeling when my feet are wet. Ayoko kasi ng nababasa ang paa ko. Treasured ko ata ito.
- I hate putik.
- I hate watching the news about families and people in wreckage.
- I hate rainy days specially looking outside the dark clouds hovering around the once bue-eyed sky. I hate gloomy moments. I hate being stuck, alone.
- I hate it when im stranded. Kaya ayokong gumising ng maaga eh kasi nakakatamad. Lalo na after preparing eh mahihirapan kang sumakay papasok at trapik.
- I hate flood. Who wants them anyway?
I love rainy days because.. (iisip ako ng mga rason ko)
- I love rain! I love water! *splish splash*
- I love to sleep when its raining. It so good a feeling. Haha! And besides, Its my favorite past time.. sleeping J
- I love to cuddle and being cuddles! (ahihi) Oh I remember the days L
- I love it when they suspend classes! Yehey! And if you’re blessed that day, yung tipong may exam ka na hindi ka mo nareview or may project/term paper ka na ipapasa that day, and the night before you prayed to God to give you extra time to delay the deadline, then kinabukasan you’ll find out na walang pasok. Haay, diba ansarap ng feeling. Haha!
- I love rainy days coz it’s the only time that I get to be lazy at home. I hate being stuck at home, alone. But I love it when the whole family’s here J
- I love sipping a hot cup of coffee or eating a bowl of chicken arrozcaldo. It beats the cold atmosphere. I remember when dad used to pick me up at SM Manila after school, whenever I feel so cold he would always buy me a cup of coffee @ Dunkin Donuts. I love their brewed coffee J Masarap na, libre pa J haha!
Marami pa akong nakalimutan eh, why I love and hate rainy days at the same time. Maybe il think about it first then il add some more probably pag feeling ko eh nakumpleto ko. Right now kasi iv been distracted eh.. haha! Im thinking of something to post tomorrow.. something about rainy days also… hmm..

Maikling Kwento

Oh well, papel.. makakaintay naman sila. (kakaintriga noh?)
Kahapon eh as usual “just another manic Monday” yan ang laging status or IM handle ko pag Monday. And it is indeed a manic Monday.
For the past few weeks pala (siguro starting last end of June) eh nagkasakit ako (actually, til now eh may sakit pa din ako) I was diagnosed with Acute Laryngitis. Sounds scary and sounds cute at the same time. Haha! Sige next time. Iinom na talaga ako. Pramis.
See, sabi sa inyo di ako addict eh. Hehe!
Well, by God’s grace eh naayos narin namen yun. I thank God for my family J I am so happy with them and feel so secured whenever they are around.
Sarap ng pagkain, may take out pa.
Last Sunday ng July. Nag gather nanaman ang the next cast ng “Mano Po.” Haha! Why? Well, the picture will speak for itself J haha! Tsk tsk. Lagi nalang. Kakasawa na minsan.
Nga pala, may friendster access na dito sa office! YEHEY! Loser noh, ngayon lang nagkaron. Haha! Pero ok lang, atleast meron. Pero bawala gamitin pag office hours, dapat eh before or after shift. For a time kasi nawalan ako ng gana sa friendster.

Harry Potter Review
Now for this review, I am going to assume that you have read the book. If you have not yet read the book, then stop reading this review right now! I will be spoiling the film and book for you.
I have no idea why they insist on making Harry Potter into a 2 hour film, the story is at the point where 3 to 3.5 hours is needed to tell his complete chapter. This is a good film but it could have been so much better and that's what is so frustrating about this film, What could have been.
Now let's talk about what went wrong with this film.
. The aftermath of the Dementors attack. All we are shown in the film is the one letter sent by the ministry. We are not shown anything else. What was really missing was the fact that his Aunt Petunia knew what a dementor actually was. I just have a weird feeling that in the next book, this fact is going to be played out.
2. Harry's lack of anger at the beginning. The film never really lets him show just how alone he feels until the middle and the beginning of the film really suffers from it.
3. The reduction of Mr. and Mrs. Weasley and Dumbledore in this film. If you have read the book, this will make sense. I do not understand why they are slowly being written out of the film when they all pay huge roles in the next chapter.
4. Cho Chang. Now I have no idea why this was done in the film but, in the book Marietta Edgecombe is the one who betrays Dumbledore's Army, but the betrayal is instead committed by Cho in the film, effectively ending her relationship with Harry, but is later revealed to have been under the influence of Veritaserum while interrogated by Umbridge, dropping the whole hexed parchment storyline altogether. This made no sense at all and I thought really hurt the film.
5. Sirius Black. Now I have no idea why his role was reduced, but the two parts that did not be removed were his argument with Snape and his talk with Harry about what Harry saw during his Occlumency. Both of these events lead to Harry's total hatred of Snape. This becomes very important in the next chapter.
6. The total removal of the return of Rita Skeeter. This is where Harry tells all about what has happened to him and what really went down last year. It also omits "The Quibbler" With this removal, Harry's main school enemy ,Draco Malfoy, is reduced to a petty bully and this will really hurt the next chapter.
7. The reduction of Twin Weasley's escape scene, what could have been a lynch pin to a great scene and a much better movie, we are given a 1 minute show.
Now Lets talk about what went right with this movie
1. Luna Lovegood. I knew this was going to be a hard role to cast but Evanna Lynch pulls it off very nicely. She soon becomes the one person that can talk to Harry and at the same time becomes a voice of reason. This was a great choice.
2. Neville Longbottom. It was nice to see that they are allowing him to grow and to show that he is slowly overcoming his self doubt.
3. Umbridge. You will really believe that she is trying her best to blindly follow orders. I loved all of the cat plates that were in her office.
~ Mike McStay
** Just watched HARRY POTTER and THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX last night. And after early this morning I can’t wait to catch a good review online. I copied this review from an i-dunno-how-i-got-there-site and after I read the review these were the only words that I uttered.. “Exactly my sentiments!”

Unwanted
I’m sick.
Early this morning, I checked my temperature and im already 38 degree C. Still, I took a bath, sipped Sopas for breakfast, then head to the office.
When got here, it’s still the same feeling.. feeling of anxiety, uneasiness, restlessness, discomfort and weakness. I didn’t pay attention to what I was feeling not until now.
I can’t hardly breathe and speak. I am always gasping for air. I am running out of air. I am feeling so weak.
At the same time that I am experiencing all this, the person that I care about makes me feel so unwanted. Not looking my way when I am near, casting me off like a fly wandering around.
It hurts.
My inside and out.
Only adds to my discomfort.
