Andy Serkis and Tom Felton in Rise of the Planet of the Apes

”Rise of the Planet of the Apes” combines fantastic storytelling with the next leap in Visual Effects for an emotional and action-packed picture experience unlike any other. Man’s arrogance sets off a chain of events that leads to intelligence in apes and a challenge to our place as the dominant species on the planet.  Caesar, the first intelligent ape, is betrayed by humans and rises up to lead his species’ spectacular freedom and the ultimate showdown with man.  In Caesar, the Oscar-winning visual effects team behind Avatar – have created a CGI ape that delivers a dramatic performance of unprecedented emotion and intelligence.

PLANET OF THE APES RISING

A new social order is about to take place on August 4 threatening humans in the event-movie “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” starring James Franco (127 Hours), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and Tom Felton (Harry Potter).

Orchestrated by director Rupert Wyatt and Peter Jackson’s filmmaking empire Weta Digital, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” breaks anew new grounds in moviemaking history using photorealistic apes instead of actors in costumes exposed to natural setting.  Pushing the boundaries beyond movie making techniques used in James Cameron’s “Avatar,” the movie is a completely new take on 20th Century Fox’s most beloved and successful franchises.  Owing much of its genesis to Avatar, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” for the first time uses technology that allows audiences to emotionally engage with a lead character, a chimpanzee named Caesar (portrayed by Andy Serkis, ’Lord of the Rings’ trilogy’s Gollum), who does not actually exist.

Rose Byrne plays “HELEN” in BRIDESMAIDS

Rose Byrne would rather appear in a comedy than win an Oscar. The 31-year-old actress admits her career has changed dramatically since appearing in 'Get Him to the Greek' and 'Bridesmaids' and she loves the material she is now being offered. She said: "Doing 'Greek' and 'Bridesmaids' has been a massive turning point for me. "I'm Australian. I love humour. I come from a family that laughs a lot and my favourite films are comedies. "Some people want the Oscar and others want the big role. But I've always wanted to do comedy."
Rose's career floundered after she appeared in 'Troy' with Brad Pitt, and she admits her subsequent struggle to find work damaged her confidence. She added in an interview with The Times newspaper: "'Troy' was huge and yet I didn't work for a long time after it. That definitely affected my confidence." Rose recently spoke of how much fun she had working on 'Bridesmaids' with Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph. She said: "I think you can tell on the screen that we were having a lot of fun. Everyone has a glint in their eye."
The obvious first question is have you ever been a bridesmaid?
No, but I was a flower girl when I was 10.

What do you think of the whole bridesmaid ordeal, from buying the dresses to throwing the parties? Has it become overly commercialized?
No, I think it’s all relevant. When it is done for the right reasons, it can be quite poignant and beautiful. All of my girlfriends have gone through the wedding ritual, except for me. It is fascinating.

The film does seem to showcase every archetype of the potential bridesmaid.
It does. I know a Helen, as I am sure most people do. Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig, the writers, really wanted to show these representations and bring the comedy to it.

Kristen Wiig plays “Annie” in BRIDESMAIDS

Kristen Wiig leads the cast as Annie, a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her closest friend, Lillian, and a group of colorful bridesmaids-Helen, Rita, Becca and Megan-on a wild ride down the road to matrimony.
Annie's life keeps coming up short. But when she discovers her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian's maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie dives into all of the required rituals as she gets to know the other ladies in the bridal party, including one particular rival (Helen) who is perfectly poised to fulfill all the duties that Annie struggles through. As she brings Lillian's bridesmaids along on an escalating series of disasters, Annie realizes the person who knows her the best has introduced her to four strangers who will shake up her life for good.

What is BRIDESMAIDS about?

My character Annie goes through a little bit of self reflection and a little bit of a breakdown when her best friend gets married. It doesn’t help that the other people in the wedding are people that she feels she should be like. From the engagement to the wedding, they all go on a journey together.

What would you say was the most challenging scene for you in the movie?

Probably the airplane scene. Just knowing that I had to act like I was under the influence… That’s such a challenge for me because I’ve never really played drunk or high before. It had to look real and I was trying not to make it too silly. I had to make it seem real and had to do it in front of 40 extras, time after time. I didn’t really know what I was going to be doing that day, so I was the most nervous for that scene.

the 189th birthday of scientist Gregor Mendel.

Gregor Johann Mendel (July 20, 1822[1] – January 6, 1884) was a Czech-German Augustinian friar and scientist, who gained posthumous fame as the figurehead of the new science of genetics for his study of the inheritance of certain traits in pea plants. Mendel showed that the inheritance of these traits follows particular laws, which were later named after him. The significance of Mendel's work was not recognized until the turn of the 20th century. The independent rediscovery of these laws formed the foundation of the modern science of genetics. - wikipedia

MANILA, July 18, 2011 – Till the end, Filipino fans of “Harry Potter” showered the boy wizard with affection, sending him off in a grand, sensational way.

With an astounding nationwide box office total of P155 million in 4 days, Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” shattered multiple box office records in a history-making opening weekend (July 14 to 17).  The announcement was made today by Warner Bros. (F.E.), Inc. General Manager, Francis Soliven.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series.  In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war.  The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe.  But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort.  It all ends here.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson reprise their roles as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.  The film’s ensemble cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Matthew Lewis, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Julie Walters and Bonnie Wright.
