A Winning Role for Anne Hathaway as Fantine in Les Miserables

Anne Hathaway stars as Fantine opposite Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, in the rousing and riveting big screen adaptation of Les Misérables. She plays Fantine, the tragic heroine of Victor Hugo’s epic 150 year-old novel. Fired from her job as a factory worker and finding herself destitute. Fantine is driven into a life of prostitution. She has to make money in order to support her illegitimate daughter.

Directed by Tom Hooper, who won an Oscar in 2010 for The King’s Speech, the film is set against a backdrop of turbulence and revolutionary fervor in post revolutionary, 19th Century France. Les Misérables was produced by Working Title Films, together with Cameron Mackintosh. Mackintosh produced the hugely successful stage production, which has been seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries since it first opened in 1985.

Hathaway is marvelous as Fantine, infusing her performance with raw emotion and passion. She had her hair cut short (on film) for the role and lost weight to bring physical authenticity to her character who is destitute and suffering from consumption.

Playing Fantine was the culmination of a long journey that began at the age of seven, when she saw her mother, stage actress Kate McCauley in the role, during a touring production in the US. It made a deep impression on her.

ANNE HATHAWAY re-invents CATWOMAN in “THE DARK KNIGHT RISES”

Academy Award-nominee Anne Hathaway is the brilliantly skilled thief named Selina Kyle—better known in the Batman canon as Catwoman – in Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

Nolan says, “We felt very strongly that we should have Catwoman in this film, but we always look for an organic way of grounding the characters in our world. Selina is a cat burglar, a grifter, a classic movie femme fatale, really. That was my way in, and we drew the iconic figure of Catwoman from that.”

The only member of the main cast who counts this film as her first collaboration with Nolan, Hathaway admits, “It’s hard to reveal anything about Selina Kyle because she is intensely private and very mysterious. She has her own code of ethics, which sometimes involves doing things that other people might consider questionable.” Screenwriter Jonathan Nolan says, “Something about her morally ambiguous philosophy finally gives Batman someone he can relate to. In a weird way, she’s the yin to his yang. The dynamic between them is so fresh—the playful way she kind of pokes fun at him—it sparks a connection between them and takes some of the somberness away from his character.”

After the debut of the “Rain” banners last week, Warner Bros. now shares three character banners for Christopher Nolan's “The Dark Knight Rises.”

The banners again individually feature 

Batman, Catwoman and Bane in what the studio calls “Snow” series.

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake.
Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman reprises the role of Lucius Fox.
The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer.

Warner Bros. is back brewing the next Batman movie entitled " The Dark Knight Rises". Christian Bale will return as Bruce Wayne/Batman and together with Anne Hathaway who has been cast as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. 

Christopher Nolan, who will be directing the film, will also produce the film with his long time producing partner, Emma Thomas and Charles Roven. 

“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release beginning July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Love and Other Drugs Movie Review

In the emotional comedy LOVE & OTHER DRUGS, Anne Hathaway portrays Maggie, an alluring free spirit who won’t let anything, including a formidable personal challenge, tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie Randall, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal, whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with women and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales. Maggie and Jamie’s evolving relationship takes them both by surprise, as they find themselves under the influence of the ultimate drug: love. Most relationships proceed from love to sex. This one goes the opposite direction and thus makes an unexpected film from an unconventional love story.

The story is not your typical romantic comedy. The story weaves thru a romance that begins one way and then evolves into something quite unexpected. The heavy weight of the film explored on the nature of love and sex that provides comedy and emotion. It does not only show sex, the movie dig deep into one person’s response toward the effects of love. Look beyond the commercialization of drugs and pay attention to the effects it brought to the community. The actors, Anne Hathway and Jake Gyllenhaal showed chemistry throughout the film. Anne’s lovable character and portrayal of Maggie is dazzling, while knowing Jake as a very lively actor, suits the charming bachelor every woman wants. I love how the movie begins with a different twist in love. There’s really a lot to say about love, it defines the person, the situation and even the emotion. Perfect movie for people in love, there are some scenes though that are not for minors.
