Food for Every Juan: Walk the World Philippines 2011

 At present, there are 925 million people in the world who do not eat enough to be healthy. That means, one in every seven people on Earthgoes to bed hungry each night. (Source: FAO News Release, 2010) 

  

I am blessed, because I complete all three meals a day and sometimes even get some snacks. Little did I know that more than a hundred million people starve everytime I take a spoon of my favorite dish and dessert.

Here in the Philippines, the Government addressed the issue on hunger specially in Mindanao by asking WFP to help address the food security needs of vulnerable people in conflict-affected areas. World Food Programme (WFP) feed hungry children worldwide and the Philippines is very proud to take part in a worldwide event happening on May 29, 2011.

 

End Hunger: Walk theWorld is an annual and fundraising event that will help generate awareness against hunger. This year, Walk the World will be held on May 29, 2011 at SM Mall of Asia, Pasay. which shall occur in 24 time zones within 24 hours in 80 different countries.

This year’s Walk the World is tied up with a lot of companies and establishment and among others, representative from Pizza Hut (Represented by Mr. Cyril Gonzales - CSR Manager Phil Pizza, TNT (Represented by  Ms. Cecilia Casas - Country HR Director) and Knorr (Ms. Bajeng Cruz - Senior Brand Manager) were all present during the Blogger’s Night. 

These partners fully supports the global campaign of WFP in raising global awareness to the issues of child hunger and raising funds for school feeding activities. Funds raised from this event shall go directly to WFP's Emergency School Feeding Program of approximately 80,000 school children in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

The speakers and bloggers were given paper-size-foot and encouraged to write some shout outs for the Race against Hunger wall, which will be hung in SM Mall of Asia on May 29, 2011.
