Resorts World Manila (RWM) will again open its center stage to bring another classical theatre production, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King And I. The majestic halls of New Port Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) will again showcase mega musical production set on September 15, 2012.
With the success of “Kaos”, the first exclusive theatre offering of Resorts World Manila, and the victory of the longest running Filipino production of a Broadway musical “The Sound of Music”, the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT), with this third theatre offering, The King and I, promises to captivate the audience with top of the class performances by its extremely gifted all-Filipino cast led by inimitable theatre legend Leo Tavarro Valdez, and the beautiful stage great Monique Wilson, who plays King Mongkut and Anna respectively.
The King and I, the fifth masterpiece of the celebrated tandem of Rodgers and Hammerstein, is the story of a widowed English school teacher who travels to Siam to serve as tutor to the many children of the King. Anna’s task of introducing the kingdom to the modern world brings about disputes with the King whom he learned to respect and love over time.
The King and I will be directed by prolific stage authority Direk Freddie Santos and complementing the dreamy scoring courtesy of the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Rodel Colmenar. The King and I also boasts of promising new sets of production props; lights, sound, and video technologies; and even the most exquisitely designed wardrobe helmed by no less than Philippine fashion icon Rajo Laurel.
